SANCTIFICATION
Part 2
Jude 1, “Jude, the servant of Jesus Christ, and brother of James, to them that are sanctified by God the Father, and preserved in Jesus Christ, and called:”

Introduction:

II. SET APART UNTO MATURITY IN CHRIST
A. He has set us apart by His own blood, Hebrews 13:12, “Wherefore Jesus also, that he might sanctify the people with his own blood, suffered without the gate.”
1. Jesus also suffered outside the city gate (camp) to make the people holy, Hebrews 2:11, “For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren,”
2. By His offering on Calvary He has perfected those who are sanctified, Hebrews 10:10, 14, “By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 14- For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”
3. Being set apart unto Him the believer has abandoned the old camp or city for a new country, Hebrews 11:10, 16, “For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God. 16- But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.”
B. Jesus has offered Himself for our perfection, Hebrews 10:14, “For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.”
1. This perfection is not sinlessness, but a growing process that leads to maturity, 1 Peter 2:2, “As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:”
2. The sanctification process is God’s will, 1 Thessalonians 4:3,“For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:”
3. Sanctification is God’s purpose for calling us by the Gospel, 1 Thessalonians 4:7, “For God hath not called us unto uncleanness, but unto holiness.”
C. Sanctification is a process of learning from the Word of God, Psalm 17:4-5, “Concerning the works of men, by the word of thy lips I have kept me from the paths of the destroyer. 5- Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not.”
1. By taking heed to your “WAY” (of living) by the Word of God, Psalm 119:9, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.”
a. Outside of Christ we were void of understanding, Proverbs 7:7, “And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,”
b. Now we are set apart or clean before the Lord, John 15:3, “Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.”
2. Study and meditation in the Word gives us strength to overcome temptation, Psalm 119:11, 15-16, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. 15- I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways. 16- I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.”
3. The Word of God must dwell in us “RICHLY,” Colossians 3:16, “Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom; teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.”

a. Timothy was well taught from his childhood, 2 Timothy 3:15, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
b. We must know the Scriptures, John 5:39, “Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.”
c. We must become so well verse in the Scriptures that we become “TEACHERS” to those around us, Hebrews 5:12-14, “For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. 13- For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. 14-But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.”
