THE DOCTRINE OF THE GRACE OF GIVING–MEMORY VERSE: I COR. 16:2

THE DOCTRINE OF THE GRACE OF GIVING
MEMORY VERSE: I COR. 16:2
I. GOD’S PLAN FOR GIVING

A. God’s Plan Before The Law.
1. Abraham tithed. Gen. 14:18-20; Heb. 7:1-10
2. Jacob vowed to tithe. Gen. 28:22
3. Abraham was very likely not the first tither.
4. Abraham’s tithing was over 400 years before the Law. Gal. 3:16,17

B. God’s Plan Under The Law.

1. The tithe is the Lord’s. Lev. 27:30
2. The tithe is holy unto the Lord. Lev. 27:30
3. The tithe must be given honestly. Lev. 27:31-33
4 The tithe is commanded by God. Lev. 27:34
5 The tithe commanded in the last O.T. book. Mall 3:10

C. God’s Plan Under Grace.

1. Jesus endorsed the tithe. Matt. 23:23

2. Jesus doubtless tithed. If He had not done so, the Pharisees would have no doubt criticized Him for not doing so.
3. The New Testament nowhere disannuls the tithe.
4. The tithe is proportional giving. Proportional giving is taught in I Cor. 16:2 and 11 Cor. 8:12-14.
II. GOD’S PLACE FOR GIVING.

A. Under The Law God Chose The Place The Storehouse.

1. Tithes, offerings and sacrifices to be brought to the place of God’s choice. Deut. 12:5,6,8,13
2. This pattern continued through the O.T. Mall 3:10. The storehouse was the Tabernacle and then later on it was the Temple. This was God’s choice.

B. Under Grace God Chose The Place The Storehouse.

1. In the N.T. the offerings were brought to the Church. Acts 4:34,37
2. The Church is the storehouse. I Cor. 16:2. Compare I Cor. 1:2 and note that he was writing to the Church.
3. This order was given to Churches. I Cor. 16:1
4. Paul’s appeals for offerings were addressed to Churches and not to individuals. 11 Cor. 8:1-7; 9:1-7. Compare with II Cor. 1:1. Individuals would give, but it was through their Church that they gave.
5. Paul commends the Philippian Church for their giving to missions. Phil. 4:10-17
6. Every Christian should be a member of a Scriptural N.T. Church and do their giving through it.
a. No Christian should give to an unscriptural cause, but through a Scriptural Church.
b. Many false causes and man made religious parasites would be eliminated if this plan was practiced.

III. GOD’S PROMISE FOR GIVING ACCORDING TO HIS PLAN.

A. God Will Bless Obedience.

1. Bountiful sowers will be bountiful reapers. II Cor. 9:6,7
2. He will pour out blessings and protect property. Mal. 3:10,11
3. Prosperity as God blesses. Prov. 3:9,10; 11:25
4. God’s good measure given. Luke 6:38
5. Treasure in heaven. Matt. 6:19-21

B. God Will Chasten For Disobedience.

1. There will be less to reap. II Cor. 9:6. If you sow sparingly, you will reap sparingly.
2. It will tend to poverty. Pro. 11:24
3. It will hinder service to God. I Tim. 6:9,10
4. It will bring a curse. Mal. 3:9

THE DOCTRINE OF THE CREATION–MEMORY VERSE: GEN. 1:1

THE DOCTRINE OF THE CREATION
MEMORY VERSE: GEN. 1:1

Genesis 1-3 reveals what God created. This portion of Scripture has been denied by liberals, modernists and unbelieving scientists. If the Bible cannot be literally believed at this point, how can we be sure it is correct elsewhere? It is all the verbally inspired word of God and it must all stand together or fall together. The Bible does not set out to prove the existence of God. “The fool bath said in his heart, there is no God.” Psa. 14:1
I. THE GENESIS ACCOUNT OF CREATION TO BE ACCEPTED LITERALLY.

A. Facts About Genesis 1:1. (a)-1
1. The word for God is “Elohim” a uni-plural noun, which fits the trinitarian view of God. It means the Almighty One.
2. The word for created is “bare” and is only used in relationship to God’s work for He alone can create. It is a singular verb and requires a singular subject.
3. In Gen. 1:1 we have the beginning of time, space, and matter.
B. The Days Of Creation Were Literal Solar Days. (a)-2 Ex. 20:11
1. The Hebrew word for “day” or “days” is “yam” or “yamin” and is found over 700 times in the O.T. When it is accompanied by a number (first, second, third, etc.), it always means a literal solar day. There are no exceptions. In some instances the singular “yam” is used to indicate an indefinite period of time, but never when it is accompanied by a number.
2. The six days of God’s creation, likened time wise to man’s six days of labor. (a)-1 Ex. 20:11
C. God Did Not Use Evolution In Creation..
1. We do not accept the gap theory taught by Scofield.
2. We do not believe that each day was a long geologic age.
a. This would be contrary to the use of “yamin” for day.
b. Adam was a fully developed man, and had named all the beasts and fowls (Gen. 2:18-20), before Eve was made from Adam’s rib (Gen. 2:21-24).
c. Adam was created the sixth day and lived through the seventh day and on to be 930 years of age (Gen. 5:5). If each one of the days of creation were long ages then he would have been many thousands of years old when he died. Perhaps he would have been from 500,000 to 750,000 years old. See (c)-1 Gen. 2:7; (c)-2 Gen. 2:21-23
d. Each living thing was to reproduce after its kind. (d)-1 Gen. 1:11; (d)-2 Gen. 1:24. This is why the missing links will always be missing. There is variety within the specie, but there is no evolution of specie or changing to another kind.
II. GOD THE CREATOR OF ALL THINGS.
A. The Scriptures Declare God To Be The Creator. See all Scripture under (a).
B. Christ Active In The Creation. (a)-4 Col. 1:16,17; (a)-6 John 1:3
C. Man Created In The Image Of God. (b)-1 Gen. 1:26,27; (b)-2 I Cor. 11:7. This has to do with being a spiritual being. See John 4:24; Heb. 12:9; Zech. 12:1; Pro. 20:27; Eccl. 12:7.
D. The Purpose Of The Creation.
1. For Him. (a)-4 Col. 1:16,17
2. For His pleasure. Rev. 4:11

A. According as we hope in thee, Psalm 33:18, 22, “Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; 22-Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.”
B. We have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us, Hebrews 6:18, “That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:”
C. I have courage in the Lord, Psalm 31:24, “Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.”
D. I trust Him to hear my petitions, Psalm 38:15, “For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.”

2. I can find a hiding place in His Word, Psalm 119:114, Thou art my hiding place and my shield: I hope in thy word.
3. I learn to wait upon the Lord in His Word, Ps 130:5, I wait for the LORD, my soul doth wait, and in his word do I hope. Isaiah 40:31, “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”
4. Trusting in His Word we are not ashamed, Ps 119:116, “Uphold me according unto thy word, that I may live: and let me not be ashamed of my hope.”
IV. WE CAN TRUST OUR ETERNITY TO OUR HOPE IN HIM.
A. The righteous have hope in his death, Proverbs 14:32, “The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.”
CONCLUSION

THE DOCTRINE OF MISSIONS–MEMORY VERSE: ACTS 1:8

THE DOCTRINE OF MISSIONS
MEMORY VERSE: ACTS 1:8

I. WHY WE BELIEVE IN MISSIONS!

1. Because the Great Commission commands 1:8

2. Because all men are lost without Jesus Christ. Acts 4:12
3. Because Christ is the only way of salvation. John 5:24,25; Rom. 10:13-15
4. Because of the destiny of the unsaved. John 3:18,36; Rev. 20:15; Luke 16:19-23
5. Because missions bring glory to God.

a. It displays His saving power.
b. It displays His mercy and grace.
c. Saved people praise and worship Him.

II. WHAT IS COMMANDED IN THE GREAT COMMISSION?

1. That the gospel be taught and preached to all nations. Matt. 28:19; Mark 16:15
2. Those who believe the gospel are to be scripturally baptized. Matt. 28:19; Acts 2:41
3. Churches must be organized so that they can carry out the great commission.

NOTE: Churches on the mission field should be indigenous. To be truly “indigenous” there must be three things:

(1) They must be self supporting. (Not dependent on mission dollars for building, pastor or expenses).

(2) They must be self governing. (Not run or controlled by missionaries or any other authority, except that of God).
(3) They must be self propagating. (That is that they are reproducing themselves and carrying out the great commission).

4. The converts are to be taught the “all things” of God. Matt. 28:20

You cannot omit any one of the above and be obedient to the great commission. The social gospel as practiced by institutional missions, is not really missions. Those who merely educate, practice medicine, raise the living standard, etc., are not doing Scriptural mission work.

III. WHO IS COMMANDED TO CARRY OUT THE GREAT COMMISSION?

1. It was not given to the apostles. They had no successors, therefore if it was given to them, when they died, it died.

2. It was not given to a convention, association or mission board, for none of them existed at that time.
3. It was not given to individuals. It should be evident to anyone that while all may carry the gospel, they would not be qualified to baptize and teach all things.
4. It was given to the local Church (the only kind there is). The apostles of Matt. 28:16 were first in the Church. I Cor. 12:28

a. Jesus promised the Church perpetuity, so she will be on earth as long as there is a need.  Matt. 16:18
b. The local Church has the authority to baptize.
c. The local Church has the means of “teaching all things.”
d. We have the example of Acts 13:1-4 to guide us.

IV. HOW ARE MISSIONARIES CALLED AND SENT?

1. They are chosen by the Holy Spirit out of a Scriptural Bible teaching Church. Acts 13:1-4
2. They are sent forth by the Holy Spirit and the Church. Acts 13:3,4
3. They are supported by the home Church and other churches who desire to take part in this ministry.  Phil. 4:10-17
4. The missionary reports back to the local Church. Acts 14:27

V. WHERE DOES THE INDIVIDUAL CHRISTIAN FIT IN TO MISSIONS?

1. By being a faithful member of a Scriptural missionary minded Church. Every Christian should be a part of one.
2. By witnessing daily for Christ. Remember the field is the world.
3. By going in person as a missionary, if God calls.
4. By going in prayer for missionaries and their needs.
5. By going in your wallet or purse, and thus give regularly, systematically, and sacrificially to missions!
