LOVING AND SERVING GOD
MATTHEW 22:36-40
PART 4-a
Introduction:
IX. JESUS IS AN EXAMPLE IN SHOWING US HOW TO LOVE AND SERVE ONE ANOTHER.
A. Without humility there is no love for others, John 13:14-15, “If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.” (See John 13:2-17)
1. Our view of self, Romans 12:16, “Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.”
2. Using the example, John 13:15, “For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.”
B. We must be a sweet-smelling savour, Ephesians 5:2, “And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.”
C. Walk as He walked, 1 John 2:6, “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.”
X. WE ARE TO IMITATE JESUS IN LOVING OTHERS.
A. A new commandment, John 13:34-35, “A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. 35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
B. It is His commandment, John 15:12, “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”
