THE DOCTRINE OF THE RESURRECTION,
THE RETURN OF CHRIST AND RELATED EVENTS

I. THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST.
A. The Evidence Of His Resurrection.
1. The testimony of the angel. (a)-1 Matt. 28:6,7
2. The testimony of Jesus to the 10 apostles. (a)-2 Luke 24:39
3. His invitation to Thomas. (a)-3 John 20:27
4. The declaration of the Scriptures. (a)-4 I Cor. 15:4
5. The empty tomb. (a)-6 Luke 24:3-6
6. The change wrought in the apostles.
a. After His death they were disheartened and afraid. John 20:19; Luke 24:21 (There are other verses that show this also).
b. After He revealed Himself to them in His resurrection body, they were very bold in preaching and witnessing about the resurrection. They would die rather than give up this precious doctrine.
(1) Hear Peter on the day of Pentecost. Acts 2:22-36.
(2) Hear him again in Acts 3:14,15.
(3) Note him before the Sanhedrin and others. Acts 4:10,33; 5:29-32
7. Stephen saw Jesus standing at the right hand of God. Acts 7:54-56
B. The Importance Of The Resurrection. Read I Cor. 15:12-19
1. Without it, preaching would be vain. v. 14
2. Without it, faith would also be vain. v. 14
3. Without it, we would be false witnesses. v. 15
4. Without it, we would still be in our sins. v. 17
5. Without it, the dead in Christ have perished. v. 18
6. Without it, all our hope would be in this life, and this would make us of all men most miserable. v. 19
II. HIS ASCENSION AND PRESENT WORK.
A. He Ascended To The Right Hand Of The Throne Of God.
1. The disciples saw Him ascend bodily. (b)-1-2-4 Acts 1:9; Luke 24:51; Mark 16:19
2. The Angels testified of His ascension. (b)-2 Acts 1:11
3. The Scriptures declare His ascension. (b)-6-7 Heb. 8:1; 12:2
4. Christ testified of his own ascension. (b)-5 Rev. 3:21
B. He Intercedes For Us Before The Throne Of God.
1. Christ is the one mediator between God and man. (c)-1-2 Heb. 8:6; I Tim. 2:5
2. Our High Priest is touched with the feeling of our infirmities. Heb. 4:14-16; (c)-4 Heb. 2:17
3. He ever lives to make intercession for us. Heb. 7:25
4. We have Him as our “advocate” (representative), with the Father. (c)-3 I John 2:1
5. He is perfect (complete) in all that He does for us. (c)-5 Heb. 5:9-10
