PRAYER–PSALM 34:15-18

GREAT BIBLE WORDS
PRAYER
Psalm 34:15-18
Introduction:
God’s Word contains much encouragement to pray. Yet, there are many Christians who do not pray regularly and effectively. Many pray and become discouraged, because they see no answers to their prayers. If prayer is not answered, you may be sure that there are reasons why this is so. Let dwell on what God says to encourage us to pray.

I. GOD STANDS READY TO HEAR AND ANSWER THE PRAYER OF HIS CHILDREN
A. God’s ears are open to us, Psalm 34:15-18, “The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. 16- The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. 17- The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18- The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.”
B. He hears the poor man’s cry, Psalm 34:6, “This poor man cried, and the LORD heard him, and saved him out of all his troubles.”
1. He will answer, Psalm 91:15, “He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him.”
a. He will deliver him, Psalm 37:40, “And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.”
b. He will honor him, John 12:26, “If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour.”
2. The Lord is not far from His own, Psalm 145:18, “The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.”
C. The right spirit is necessary, Psalm 51:17, “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.”

II. DO WHAT YOU CAN AND ASK GOD TO DO WHAT YOU CANNOT
Nehemiah 4:7-9, “But it came to pass, that when Sanballat, and Tobiah, and the Arabians, and the Ammonites, and the Ashdodites [Philistines], heard that the walls of Jerusalem were made up, and that the breaches began to be stopped, then they were very wroth, 8- And conspired all of them together to come and to fight against Jerusalem, and to hinder it. 9- Nevertheless we made our prayer unto our God, and set a watch against them day and night, because of them.”
A. In the day of trouble, Psalm 50:15, “And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.”
1. “I will deliver thee,” v. 17 (text), “The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles.”
2. “Thou shalt glorify me,” Matthew 5:16, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”
B. Put your burdens on Him, Psalm 55:22, “Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

III. SEEK THE LORD WHILE HE MAY BE FOUND
Isaiah 55:6, “Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near:”
A. Do you understand? Psalm 14:2, “The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God.”
1. David said that he understood, Psalms 27:8, “When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, LORD, will I seek.”
2. He understood the time to pray, Psalms 32:6, “For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.”
B. Ask, seek, knock, Matthew 7:7-8, “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: 8- For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
“The phrases signify to seek with earnestness, and diligence, and perseverance. The promise is, that what we seek shall be given us. It is of course implied that we seek with a proper spirit, with humility, sincerity, and perseverance.” —Barnes NT Notes.

CONCLUSION

JUSTIFICATION–ROMANS 3:19-31

GREAT BIBLE WORDS

JUSTIFICATION
Romans 3:19-31
Introduction:
When the trial of a prisoner has been completed, the judge or jury, as the case may be, declares him to be either not guilty, that is, “justified,” or guilty, that is, “condemned.”
Justification may be defined as “a judicial act of God in the which He declares the sinner free from condemnation, and restores him to divine favor. It takes place when the sinner trusts in Christ and His merits for salvation.” —Dr. E. Y. Mullins.
In other words, “justification” is God’s verdict.

I. THE BASIS OF JUSTIFICATION
A. What justification IS NOT, v. 20.
1. By the deeds of the Law no man is justified, Galatians 3:10-12, “For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. 11- But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12- And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.”
2. Those that would live by the Law make Christ of no effect in their lives, Galatians 5:4, “Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.”
3. The overwhelming numbers of professing Christians are trying to persuade God that they are righteous through their good works, Matthew 7:22-23, “Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? 23- And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.”
4. The purpose of the Law, Romans 7:7-9, “What shall we say then? Is the law sin? God forbid. Nay, I had not known sin, but by the law: for I had not known lust , except the law had said, Thou shalt not covet. 8- But sin, taking occasion by the commandment, wrought in me all manner of concupiscence. For without the law sin was dead. 9- For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died.”
B. What justification IS, vv. 24-25.
1. It is the Gospel way of justification, John 3:14-15, “And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: 15- That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”

2. It is without the Law, Romans 3:28, “Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.”
3. The Law of God gives witness to justification by faith in Jesus Christ, Acts 10:43, “To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”
4. Justification is BY FAITH in Jesus Christ, v. 26;
a. Because His work is perfect, Deuteronomy 32:4. “He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he.”
b. Justification is by faith that it might be BY GRACE, Romans 4:16, “Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,”

II. THE RESULTS OF JUSTIFICATION BY FAITH
A. God DECLARES the sinner free from condemnation, John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
B. God RESTORES the sinner to RIGHT STANDING before Him, Romans 8:1-3, “There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2- For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3- For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:”
1. We stand in His Grace, Romans 5:2, “By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.”
2. We are no longer under His wrath, Romans 1:18, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;”
3. We possess eternal life, Romans 5:17-18, 21, “For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) 18- Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 21- That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.”

JOY–PSALM 5:11

GREAT BIBLE WORDS
JOY
Psalm 5:11
“But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.”

Introduction:
The word “joy” occurs 167 times in the Bible.
The Joy of returning to the Lord, Psalm 51:12, “Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free spirit.”
The Joy of seeing someone saved, Psalm 126:5, “They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.”

(Singing)
Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour God’s righteous cause, Psalm 35:27, “Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.”
I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy, Psalm 42:4, “When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.”
Joy is in the way we respond, Proverbs 15:23, “A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!”
He that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him, Proverbs 23:24, “The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.”
The joy of the LORD is your strength, Nehemiah 8:10, “Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
At the birth of Jesus Christ there was great joy, Matthew 2:10-11, “When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11- And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”
Many rejoiced, Luke 1:14, “And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.”
The news was a joyous occasion, Luke 2:10,“And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.”
Persecution for Jesus’ sake can bring great joy, Luke 6:22, “Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake.”
Paul and Barnabas, Acts 13:50-52, “But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts. 51- But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium. 52- And the disciples were filled with joy, and with the Holy Ghost.”
James declares it a joy to be proved by God, James 1:2-3, “My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; 3- Knowing this , that the trying of your faith worketh patience.”
The good news of men receiving Christ as Savior, Acts 15:3, “And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.”
The joy and peace of believing, Romans 15:13, “Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.”

INSPIRATION–2 TIMOTHY 3:16

GREAT BIBLE WORDS

INSPIRATION
2 Timothy 3:16
Introduction:
God’s words were given through men superintended by the Holy Spirit so that their writings are without error. This fact was virtually taken for granted by the Jews.
“The thought is not of God as breathing through Scripture, or of Scripture as breathing out God, but of God as having breathed out Scripture. Paul’s words mean, not that Scripture is inspiring (true though this is), but that Scripture is a divine product, and must be approached and estimated as such. God’s ‘breath’ (i.e. the Holy Spirit) produced Scripture, as a means to the conveyance of spiritual understanding. Paul’s meaning is clear beyond all doubt. He is affirming that all that comes in the category of Scripture, all that has a place among the ‘sacred writings’, just because it is God-breathed, is profitable for the guiding of both faith and life.
“On the basis of this Pauline text, English theology regularly uses the word ‘inspiration’ to express the thought of the divine origin and quality of Holy Scripture.” —New Bible Dictionary

I. INSPIRATION MEANS “GOD BREATHED”
A. Scripture is a divine product, 2 Timothy 3:15, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
B. The word “Scripture” means “writings,”
1. They come from the holy God, Joshua 24:19, “And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. 20 If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.”
2. They were delivered by holy men, 2 Peter 1:21, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
a. They came through the prophets, 2 Samuel 23:2, “The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.”
b. It was the Lord’s doing, Matthew 21:42, “Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?”
3. They were designed to make us holy, Romans 16:25-27, “Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, 26- But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: 27- To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.”

II. THE DESIGN OF THE SCRIPTURES
A. The “breath” or “spirit” of God in the Old Testament DENOTES THE ACTIVE OUTGOING OF DIVINE POWER.
1. As in the creation, Psalm 33:6, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.”
2. As in revelation to and through the Prophets, Isaiah 48:16, “Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.”
B. Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecies are Proof that the Scriptures are God-Breathed.
1. Not a bone of Jesus’ body was to be broken, Psalm 34:20, “He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.”
PROOF: John 19:31-33, “The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:”
2. They pierced His hands and feet, Psalm 22:16, “For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.”
PROOF: John 20:25, “The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
3. They cast lots for His vesture, Psalm 22:18, “They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”
PROOF: Matthew 27:35, “And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.”
C. The God-breathed Scriptures are to lead us in the way of holiness to happiness, Psalm 144:15, “Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.”
1. He has forgiven our transgressions, Psalm 32:1, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”
2. Happy is the man who has trusted the Lord, Psalm 40:4, “Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.”
3. Happy is the man that keeps God’s Word, Jude 21, 24, “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 24- Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,”
