A VISION OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR–REVELATION 1:1-9

A VISION OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR
REVELATION 1:1-9
Introduction:

The Apostle John saw the Lord revealed by the Spirit of God, as a lamb, as the Lamb of God who shed His blood, and as the Lion of the tribe of Judah.

The PERSONALITY of the Savior at His first coming was that of a MEEK person, Matthew 11:29, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.”

John saw the LAMB of God shedding His blood for the sins of the World, John 1:29, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

Finally, John saw Jesus as the LION of the tribe of Judah, the KING of Israel and KING of Kings, Revelation 5:5, “And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

I. AS THE LAMB OF GOD

A. The Prophesy of the Lamb, Genesis 22:7-8, “And Isaac spake unto Abraham his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here am I, my son. And he said, Behold the fire and the wood: but where is the lamb for a burnt offering? 8 And Abraham said, My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so they went both of them together.”

1. Perhaps God used a play on words to say that Son would be that Lamb, the term is REFLEXIVE, i.e., He Himself.

2. God has taught man what the offering was to be, Genesis 4:4, “And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:”

B. The Redemption of Israel from Egypt was through the offering of a lamb, Exodus 12:3-5, “Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house: 4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb. 5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:”

1. Your lamb shall be WITHOUT BLEMISH, 1 Peter 1:19, “But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:”

2. Your lamb shall be A MALE, Leviticus 1:3, “If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.”

C. The Servant of God would be as a lamb, Isaiah 53:7, “He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.”

1. His FOCUS would be on DOING the WILL of His Master, Hebrews 10:7, “Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.”

2. He comes as the MEEK LAMB of God, John 1:29, “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”

II. AS THE ONE WHO SHED HIS OWN BLOOD

A. His blood was SHED for the REMISSION OF SINS, Matthew 26:28, “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.”

B. He WASHED US from our sins in His OWN BLOOD, Revelation 1:5, “And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,”

1. For the LIFE is IN the BLOOD, Leviticus 17:11, “For the life of the flesh is in the blood: and I have given it to you upon the altar to make an atonement for your souls: for it is the blood that maketh an atonement for the soul.”

2. Jesus is THE LIFE, John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”

C. His blood was shed for the JUSTIFICATION of the sinner, Romans 5:9, “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”

III. AS THE LION OF JUDAH

Revelation 5:5, “And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.

A. The ROOT of David, Isaiah 11:10, “And in that day there shall be a ROOT OF JESSE, which shall stand for an ENSIGN of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and his rest shall be glorious.”

B. The KING of Israel, John 1:49, “Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the SON of God; thou art the KING of Israel.”

C. The LORD of lords and KING of kings, Revelation 17:14, “These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is LORD of lords, and KING of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.”

D. He ALONE is the “ONLY POTENTATE” and King of kings, 1 Timothy 6:15, “Which in his times he shall shew, who is the BLESSED and ONLY POTENTATE, the KING of kings, and LORD of lords;”

CONCLUSION:

John 18:37, “Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”

A NEW HEAVEN, A NEW EARTH AND A NEW JERUSALEM–REVELATION 21:1-5

A NEW HEAVEN, A NEW EARTH AND A NEW JERUSALEM
REVELATION 21:1-5
Introduction:
One of the great hopes of the Believer is the coming time when the Lord will make everything NEW. Sin has left its mark on the heavens and this earth. The Lord will remove the stain by make new heavens and a new earth.
The NEW MAN shall inhabit this new earth and especially the NEW JERUSALEM. Let us examine what the Lord will do and the results of these new things.
I. THE LORD WILL MAKE ALL THINGS NEW
Revelation 21:5, “And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he said unto me, Write: for these words are true and faithful.”
A. The Lord declares new things, Isaiah 42:9, “Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.”
1. God will create NEW heavens and a new earth, Isaiah 65:17, “For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.”
2. It will be a place of REJOICING, Isaiah 65:18-19, “But be ye glad and rejoice for ever in that which I create: for, behold, I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. 19 And I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and joy in my people: and the voice of weeping shall be no more heard in her, nor the voice of crying.”
B. These new things will REMAIN before the Lord, Isaiah 66:22, “For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain.”
C. We look with ANTICIPATION for these new things, 2 Peter 3:13, “Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.”
1. We HASTEN the coming of the Day of the Lord, 2 Peter 3:12, “Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?”
2. We as believers are MOTIVATED to be found diligent in His service, 2 Peter 3:14, “Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.”

2. God has made Jesus TO BE SIN FOR US, 2 Corinthians 5:21, “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
B. God has made a “NEW MAN,” Ephesians 2:15, “Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace;”
1. This new man is created in the HOLINESS OF TRUTH, Ephesians 4:24, “And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

This new man will INHABIT the New Jerusalem, Revelation 3:12, “Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name.”
III. THE NEW JERUSALEM
A. The city is foursquare, Revelation 21:16, “And the city lieth foursquare, and the length is as large as the breadth: and he measured the city with the reed, twelve thousand furlongs. The length and the breadth and the height of it are equal.”

3. The Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the Temple of the city, Revelation 21:22, “And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.”
4. The light of the city is Jesus Christ, Revelation 21:23, “And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.”
5. There is no night there, Revelation 21:25, “And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.”

7. The former things are passed away, Revelation 21:4, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
