THE LORD MIGHTY IN BATTLE–PSALM 24:8

PSALM 24:8
“Who is this King of glory? The LORD strong and mighty, the LORD mighty in battle.”
Introduction:

Well may our God be glorious in the eyes of his people, seeing that he has wrought such wonders for them, in them, and by them.
I. ON CALVARY THE LORD ROUTED EVERY FOE
A. He broke the enemy’s weapons in pieces.
1. By his finished work of satisfactory obedience, Isaiah 53:11, “He shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.”
2. By his triumphant resurrection, Matthew 28:6-7, “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay. 7-And go quickly, and tell his disciples that he is risen from the dead; and, behold, he goeth before you into Galilee; there shall ye see him: lo, I have told you.”
B. His ascension completely overturned the hopes of hell.
1. By leading captivity captive
2. By making a show of our enemies openly
3. By triumphing over them by his cross
II. EVERY ARROW OF SATAN IS BROKEN
A. Making vain are the sharp swords of the malice of Hell.
B. Making vain the perpetual battles of the serpent’s seed
1. For in the midst of the Lord’s people the lame take the prey,
2. The feeblest warriors are crowned.
III. THE BELIEVER MAY ADORE HIS LORD FOR HIS CONQUEST IN THEM
A. For his conquests in them:
1. The arrows of their natural hatred are snapped
2. The weapons of their rebellion broken.
B. For the victories His grace has won in our evil hearts!
1. Our stubborn will has been subdued.
2. Sin has been dethroned in our life.
C. As for our remaining corruption shall sustain an equally sure defeat.
1. Every temptation shall be completely destroyed.
2. Every doubt and fear, shall be taken away.
D. In our peaceful hearts…
1. The name of Jesus is great beyond compare.
2. He has won our love.
3. We are more than conquerors through him that loved us.
