(Singing)
Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour God’s righteous cause, Psalm 35:27, “Let them shout for joy, and be glad, that favour my righteous cause: yea, let them say continually, Let the LORD be magnified, which hath pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.”
I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy, Psalm 42:4, “When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday.”
Joy is in the way we respond, Proverbs 15:23, “A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth: and a word spoken in due season, how good is it!”
He that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him, Proverbs 23:24, “The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise child shall have joy of him.”
The joy of the LORD is your strength, Nehemiah 8:10, “Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the LORD is your strength.”
At the birth of Jesus Christ there was great joy, Matthew 2:10-11, “When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceeding great joy. 11- And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense, and myrrh.”
Many rejoiced, Luke 1:14, “And thou shalt have joy and gladness; and many shall rejoice at his birth.”

INSPIRATION–2 TIMOTHY 3:16

GREAT BIBLE WORDS

INSPIRATION
2 Timothy 3:16
Introduction:
God’s words were given through men superintended by the Holy Spirit so that their writings are without error. This fact was virtually taken for granted by the Jews.
“The thought is not of God as breathing through Scripture, or of Scripture as breathing out God, but of God as having breathed out Scripture. Paul’s words mean, not that Scripture is inspiring (true though this is), but that Scripture is a divine product, and must be approached and estimated as such. God’s ‘breath’ (i.e. the Holy Spirit) produced Scripture, as a means to the conveyance of spiritual understanding. Paul’s meaning is clear beyond all doubt. He is affirming that all that comes in the category of Scripture, all that has a place among the ‘sacred writings’, just because it is God-breathed, is profitable for the guiding of both faith and life.
“On the basis of this Pauline text, English theology regularly uses the word ‘inspiration’ to express the thought of the divine origin and quality of Holy Scripture.” —New Bible Dictionary

I. INSPIRATION MEANS “GOD BREATHED”
A. Scripture is a divine product, 2 Timothy 3:15, “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.”
B. The word “Scripture” means “writings,”
1. They come from the holy God, Joshua 24:19, “And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he is an holy God; he is a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins. 20 If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.”
2. They were delivered by holy men, 2 Peter 1:21, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
a. They came through the prophets, 2 Samuel 23:2, “The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.”
b. It was the Lord’s doing, Matthew 21:42, “Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?”
3. They were designed to make us holy, Romans 16:25-27, “Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began, 26- But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith: 27- To God only wise, be glory through Jesus Christ for ever. Amen.”

II. THE DESIGN OF THE SCRIPTURES
A. The “breath” or “spirit” of God in the Old Testament DENOTES THE ACTIVE OUTGOING OF DIVINE POWER.
1. As in the creation, Psalm 33:6, “By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth.”
2. As in revelation to and through the Prophets, Isaiah 48:16, “Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me.”
B. Fulfillment of Old Testament Prophecies are Proof that the Scriptures are God-Breathed.
1. Not a bone of Jesus’ body was to be broken, Psalm 34:20, “He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.”
PROOF: John 19:31-33, “The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away. 32 Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him. 33 But when they came to Jesus, and saw that he was dead already, they brake not his legs:”
2. They pierced His hands and feet, Psalm 22:16, “For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet.”
PROOF: John 20:25, “The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe.”
3. They cast lots for His vesture, Psalm 22:18, “They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture.”
PROOF: Matthew 27:35, “And they crucified him, and parted his garments, casting lots: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, They parted my garments among them, and upon my vesture did they cast lots.”
C. The God-breathed Scriptures are to lead us in the way of holiness to happiness, Psalm 144:15, “Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.”
1. He has forgiven our transgressions, Psalm 32:1, “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered.”
2. Happy is the man who has trusted the Lord, Psalm 40:4, “Blessed is that man that maketh the LORD his trust, and respecteth not the proud, nor such as turn aside to lies.”
3. Happy is the man that keeps God’s Word, Jude 21, 24, “Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. 24- Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,”

CONCLUSION

IMMORTALITY–1 CORINTHIANS 15:51-57

GREAT BIBLE WORDS

“IMMORTALITY”
I Corinthians 15:51-57
Introduction:
The word immortality is the opposite of mortality which means death. So immortality means deathlessness or endless existence. When we speak of the immortality of the soul we mean that the soul of man will continue to exist thoughout the endless ages of eternity.
The doctrine of the immortality of the soul is taught in both the Old and New Testaments.

I. THE IMMORTALITY IS BRIEFLY TAUGHT IN THE OLD TESTAMENT
A. Job spoke of seeing the Lord in his flesh after his body is destroyed, Job 19:26, “And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:”
B. Ezekiel told of the continued existence of the Egyptians leader, Ezekiel 32:21, “The strong among the mighty shall speak to him out of the midst of hell with them that help him: they are gone down, they lie uncircumcised, slain by the sword.”
C. Daniel spoke of the resurrection of man, Daniel 12:2, “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt.”

II. THE IMMORTALITY IS TAUGHT THROUGHOUT THE NEW TESTAMENT
A. While the expression “immortality of the soul” does not appear in the Scriptures, eternal or everlasting life is asserted over and over, John 5:24, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
B. The description found in Revelation 21 makes it clear that those who go to heaven will continue their blessed existence forever.
1. God will dwell among men in the new earth, Revelation 21:3, “And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.”
2. The reason for death is removed in the new earth, Revelation 21:4, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
C. The Seventh Day Adventist say that the wicked dead are annihilated, however, Jesus said in Mark 9:47-48, “And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48- Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.”
1. Jesus said that some would go into eternal punishment while others would receive eternal life, Matthew 25:46, “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”
2. In Luke 16 Jesus told of the rich man who died and went to Hell, Luke 16:23-24, “And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. 24- And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame.”
C. Now we deal with another aspect of immortality: Death.
1. Death means separation.
a. The death of a Christian means separation from the body, 2 Corinthians 5:8, “We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.”
b. For the sinner death means separation from God, Matthew 25:41, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”
2. Paul tells us that Christ has abolished death and brought life and immortality, 2 Timothy 1:10, “But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:”
a. Jesus is the source of life, John 14:6, “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.”
b. Jesus is the source of immortality, 1 Timothy 6:16, “Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.”

CONCLUSION

HELL–MARK 9:47

GREAT BIBLE WORDS

HELL
Mark 9:47

Introduction:

Recently some religious leaders have declared that Hell is not a literal place, but rather the sufferings that one goes through on this earth. These folks do not believe the Bible as the Word of God. We will see in this study that they have made Jesus Christ to be a liar by denying the doctrine of Hell as taught in the Bible.
There are two words translated hell in the Bible:
Hades (sheol in the Hebrew language of the Old Testament) and Gehenna. Hades and Sheol are the place of the dead implying a place of punishment. Gehenna is literally translated “Hell fire” and is rightly translated “Hell.”
I. THE FACT OF HELL

A. Hell is the most reasonable thing in the world.
1. Some people object to the doctrine of Hell as taught in the New Testament.
2. It is an absolute necessity.
a. No one objects to the fact that our government needs jails and prisons to control lawbreakers.
b. However, man will object to God having a place for His lawbreakers and those who reject His Son, Jesus Christ.
B. Hell is not only reasonable, but it is Scriptural.
1. The New Testament plainly teaches the doctrine of the punishment of the wicked in Hell, Revelation 20:14, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.”
2. The primary reason we believe the doctrine of Hell is because the Scripture teaches it.
3. The word “gehenna” is found in the New Testament 12 times and 11 of those times it came from the lips of Jesus Himself:
a. Matthew 5:22, “But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.”
b. Matthew 5:29, “And if thy right eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: for it is profitable for thee that one of thy members should perish, and not that thy whole body should be cast into hell.”
c. Matthew 10:28, “And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.”
d. Matthew 18:9, “And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire.”
e. Matthew 23:15, “Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.”
f. Matthew 23:33, “Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?”
g. Mark 9:43, “And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched:”
h. Mark 9:47, “And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire:”
i. Luke 12:5, “But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.”
j. James 3:6, “And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity: so is the tongue among our members, that it defileth the whole body, and setteth on fire the course of nature; and it is set on fire of hell.”

II. THE NATURE OF HELL
A. Hell is everlasting punishment, Matthew 25:46, “And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal.”
B. Hell is the expression of the wrath of God, Romans 1:18, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;”
1. Hell is everlasting fire, Matthew 25:41, “Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:”
2. Hell is eternal separation from God, 2 Thessalonians 1:9, “Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;”
3. It is outer darkness, Matthew 8:12, “But the children of the kingdom shall be cast out into outer darkness: there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”
4. It is the second death, Revelation 20:14, “And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.”

CONCLUSION

The duration of Hell is an awful thing to contemplate. It is eternal, everlasting, without end. Many think that “war is hell,” or that “the only hell is the hell we experience here on earth.” There is nothing on earth that can be compared to the Hell of the Bible. It is a terrible thing and there is no need to go there for Jesus has paid the price for our sins on the Cross of Calvary. Faith in Jesus Christ as Savior resolves the problem.
